Golden Valley product Zack Chevalier named NAIA’s best football player

Golden Valley High School alumnus Zack Chevalier has received multiple awards after a sensational redshirt sophomore year at Morningside University.

He is the first Walter Camp NAIA Player of the Year after completing 351 of 527 passes for 4,782 yards and 45 touchdowns, which helped the Mustangs finish 12-2 in 2024.

He was also named an All-American by the Associated Press, the American Football Coaches Association and the NAIA. He led all NAIA schools in passing yards, passing yards per game and passing touchdowns. He had his best game on Oct. 19 when he went 21 of 25 passing for 328 yards and six touchdowns against Briarcliff.

Morningside, which is located in Sioux City, Iowa, reached the NAIA semifinals but lost to Grand View to fall short of the championship game.

Chevalier also played locally at Los Angeles Valley College before arriving at Morningside.
