Galaxy midfielder Riqui Puig will miss MLS Cup after suffering ACL injury

Galaxy midfielder Riqui Puig suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in last night’s Western Conference final and will miss Saturday’s MLS Cup.

The club confirmed the injury after Puig underwent an MRI Sunday morning. He will undergo surgery at a later date.

According to the Galaxy, Puig sustained the injury early in the second half. He had the assist on Dejan Joveljić’s game-winning goal in the 85th minute. Puig was seen limping during the on-field celebration after Saturday night’s victory. After the game he said in an Instagram post: “The team and fans were amazing tonight! Thank you for all your messages and support! Hope [it’s] nothing serious and we look on to Saturday.”

Puig has put in a special season for the Galaxy, recording 37 goal contributions (17 goals, 20 assists) in 36 games across all competitions. This is his second full season in the MLS, having joined the Galaxy from Barcelona late in the 2022 season. Earlier this season, the Galaxy signed him to a contract extension through the 2027 season.
