Direct victims of the recent Southern California wildfires and first responders who worked on them are invited to attend a free “We Love LA” concert at the Hollywood Bowl.
Famed conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic will perform at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1. (And, no, this is not an April Fool joke.) Special guests will also be present, including the Palisades Charter High School Band.
Among the selections scheduled to be played include composer Gabriela Ortiz’s celebratory Kauyumari, which was commissioned by the LA Philharmonic, along with Mahler’sAdagietto from Symphony No. 5 — a poignant love song — and film-music favorites by John Williams, including from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Superman and Jurassic Park.
The special guests include Grammy-nominated pianist Gerald Clayton, who was raised in Altadena. He will join the orchestra for “I Got Rhythm” by George Gershwin. More special guests will also be announced. Doors to the show open at 6 p.m.
Southern California wildfires in December and January burned tens of thousands of acres and killed at least 29 people. Pacific Palisades and Altadena were especially devastated.
To register for tickets, applicants can go to HollywoodBowl.com and create an account starting now, then search for We Love (heart) LA concert. The concert is open specifically to first responders and community members directly impacted by the wildfires.
Registration does not guarantee entry, depending on how many seats are available. People must certify that they were directly impacted by the fires. Each person can request up to four tickets. Registrants will be randomly selected and notified beginning Sunday, March 16. If there are more applicants than seats available, the free tickets will be available for selected registrants at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17.
The show will also be simulcast live on Classical California KUSC in Los Angeles (91.5FM) and on Classical California KDFC in San Francisco (90.3FM) and available to listen to for a week afterward.
