San Pedro’s popular Cars and Stripes Forever! event — a preview for the Fourth of July celebrations — will be presented Friday night, June 28, at Swinford Street and Harbor Boulevard under the Vincent Thomas Bridge in San Pedro.

And if you want to see a traditional fireworks show in San Pedro this year, that will be the (only) place to be.

The port town’s usual big Fourth of July fireworks blowout at Cabrillo Beach was canceled this year due to complications finding a vendor. Instead, the town’s official program this year will be on July 6 at Cabrillo Beach and will feature a drone show instead of fireworks.

The Port of Los Angeles’ Cars and Stripes Forever! extravaganza, which debuted in 2008 as a way to usher in the summer’s big, patriotic holiday, has become an Independence Day port town staple. It rolls out from 5-10 p.m. Friday.

Held on the Friday night before the 4th, the annual summer show offers up a classic car and motorcycle display, beer garden, live bands, dancing, and food trucks, all against the backdrop of the Port of Los Angeles.

And this year that fireworks finale will be the only professional fireworks show folks will get in San Pedro. The finale for Cars and Stripes will end with its traditional fireworks show over port waters.

A free shuttle to and from downtown San Pedro will be available, as well as low-cost parking at Harbor Boulevard and First Street.

The free, annual event ends with the fireworks show at about 9 p.m.
