Firefighters rescue woman, dogs, cat from Granada Hills fire

A 60-year-old woman was rushed to a hospital in fair condition Wednesday from a house fire in Granada Hills, where firefighters also rescued three dogs and one cat from the two-story structure.

“There are still several more cats unaccounted for, and firefighters continue to look for them while conducting overhaul operations,” Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

Firefighters dispatched at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday to the 11200 block of Dempsey Avenue, just west of Haskell Avenue, had the fire out within 26 minutes of their arrival, Stewart said.

“The fire started on the first floor and extended up through to the attic,” she said.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
