A suspect surrendered to police following an exchange of gunfire and a brief barricade at a home in Eagle Rock, authorities said Saturday, Nov. 23.
Officers were dispatched at about 1:45 p.m. Friday to a home in the 5000 block of North La Roda Avenue regarding a man who was having “suicidal ideations and was armed with a firearm,” the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
Arriving officers spotted the suspect on the front porch and stayed at their vehicles to communicate with him.
“One of the officers saw the suspect was still armed with a firearm,” according to a police statement. “The suspect shot in the direction of the officers and there was an exchange of gunfire.”
The suspect went into a residence as additional law enforcement resources were called in. Initially, the suspect refused to submit to an arrest, but was ultimately taken into custody, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where his condition was not immediately clear.
Police said the suspect’s handgun was recovered at the scene and no officers were injured.
