Ducks’ new uniforms go orange and embrace ‘classic’ logo

While the “Mighty” not be back in their name, the Ducks went retro with a “brand evolution” that brings back the classic masked duck logo with a new, more expressive styling and no shortage of bright orange to enliven both the road and, particularly, the home sets.

“As our organization enters a new chapter of Anaheim Ducks hockey, we are proud to reveal our new, refreshed logo and uniform kit that identifies with the Orange County community,” Ducks owners Henry and Susan Samueli said in a news release. “The Ducks are a symbol of Orange County, and our pivot to orange with an updated, iconic logo encompasses our past, present and future.”

The “Wild Wing” logo was used between the franchise’s inception in 1993 and 2006, the season before the Ducks won their first and only Stanley Cup. Then, they transformed the original eggplant and jade color scheme into a black, gold and orange look that they sported for the majority of the period since, often using wordmark logos or a large “D” on their crest.

Yet the original insignia has made various appearances, not only in classic color combos but also against orange backdrops. The Reebok alternate jerseys, worn from 2015 to 2017, and an Adidas iteration of that same jersey, worn from 2019 to 2023, incorporated the classic logo invigorated with orange, gold and black.

The new ensembles springboard off that alternate as well as the Ducks’ second Reverse Retro style, which was the closest prior approximation of the new away jerseys.

Newsom finally acts to slow insurers’ exit

There will be no alternate jersey for the coming season as last year’s popular plum third jersey with yet another take on the Wild Wing logo was designed exclusively for the 30th anniversary season. In fact, the Ducks are one of few teams receiving a redesign, as this season will represent a cumbersome transition from Adidas to Fanatics as the NHL’s official jersey supplier.

In design terms, the name on the back is almost as important as the logo on the front, and the Ducks’ new duds implement a bold Art Deco font on both the names and numbers.

Bolder still is the sea of orange, particularly on the home jersey, which inundates the eye with enough citrusy flair to make one’s lips pucker just a bit. There’s not only an orange jersey but orange pants and an orange helmet as well, with the road kit adding orange to the shoulders that wasn’t present in the Reverse Retro color blocking while utilizing a white lid.

Fans can see the new uniforms in person as Sunday’s Summer Flock Party, which will take place between noon and 4 p.m. at Honda Center.

A couple prominent fans already donned the new jerseys, with Angels outfielder Mike Trout and comedian Gabriel Iglesias lending a hand with the rollout.
