Disneyland rescues 20 riders stuck on Incredicoaster in scorching heat

Disneyland handed out umbrellas to riders stuck on the Incredicoaster at Disney California Adventure for more than an hour amid a scorching heat wave while rescue crews freed 20 people stranded on the 120-foot-tall roller coaster.

Disneyland employees in safety harnesses evacuated Incredicoaster riders and escorted them to safety after the ride broke down on the track just after 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, according to freelance media firm OC Hawk.

The Incredicoaster remained temporarily closed at 7 p.m. on Sunday following the malfunction, according to the Disneyland app.

Temperatures reached the mid-80s on Sunday at the Anaheim theme park ahead of a heat wave that is expected to bake Southern California for the next week or so.

Vince Crandon told KNBC4 the Incredicoaster also stalled the day before on Saturday, June 29.

“I thought maybe the ride was closed,” Crandon told KNBC4. “I was really concerned for the heat and obviously for the people.”

The 6,000-foot-long magnetically-launched looping roller coaster in Pixar Pier with a top speed of 55 mph underwent a seasonal refurbishment in March.

The cause of the ride breakdown was unknown, according to OC Hawk.
