Disneyland newcomer Bluey could be bigger than Mickey, Moana or Deadpool

Bluey could soon draw bigger crowds at Disneyland than Mickey Mouse, Deadpool or Moana when the energetic and imaginative animated puppy becomes the newest Disney character to drop by the Anaheim theme park.

Bluey and her family will make meet-and-greet appearances at the Disneyland resort in 2025, according to Disney.

“Bluey” is an Australian children’s TV series about a 6-year-old puppy named Bluey and her family, neighbors and school friends who invent elaborate games to play in each episode of the Peabody- and Emmy-winning animated show.

Disney is working with “Bluey” producers Ludo Studios and the BBC on several “special activations” involving the characters at the Disneyland and Disney World resorts.

Beginning in January, Disney Cruise Line voyages starting in Australia and New Zealand will feature dance parties, interactive games and meet-and-greet photo opportunities with Bluey and her sister, Bingo.

Disney has a wealth of intellectual properties to draw from for the parks — but none may be as popular right now as Bluey.

“Bluey” was the most-watched streaming series in 2024 in the United States, according to Nielsen Media Research.

The closest competition for “Bluey” among animated television series has been “Family Guy” and “Bob’s Burgers” — two Disney properties that have yet to appear in the parks in any significant way.

Deadpool & Wolverine” and “Moana” are among the top streaming movies in the U.S. right now, according to Nielsen.

“Bluey” remains the king of Disney+ as well — reigning as the most-watched series globally on the streaming service in 2024. Kids and their parents watched 842 million hours of “Bluey” in 2024, according to Disney.

Disney will release a “Bluey” film in theaters in 2027 that will stream on Disney+ and air on ABC.
