De Garmo Park in Sun Valley now offers a “Ninja X-Treme” course

De Garmo Park in Sun Valley has seen many improvements welcomed by the community since 2022, including new fitness stations, path improvements, seating, trees, lighting upgrades, and a canopied pirate ship play structure for children. And the latest addition drew a crowd on Friday, March 28 to welcome the park’s new “Ninja X-Treme” course.

Los Angeles City Council District 6 Councilmember Adrin Nazarian led a ribbon-cutting to officially open the ninja course, an extremely challenging exercise circuit chosen by the Sun Valley community. It’s the only course like it in the San Fernando Valley.

“This is a great day for Sun Valley and De Garmo Park,” said Nazarian. “Once upon a time, this was unused Caltrans property. The Parks Department leased the space, but over time the facilities deteriorated. My predecessor, Paul Krekorian, secured unexpended Community Development Block Grant funds for the improvement of De Garmo Park.”

Under Krekorian, the park was rejuvenated in 2022. And when Nazarian joined the City Council in January he said his office “worked with community groups to find out what further improvements they’d like to see in the park.”

“A basketball court wasn’t a good fit for this space,” Nazarian said, “and the constituents chose this super-demanding fitness course.”

The council member added, “This circuit, called Ninja X-Treme, will give the young people and fitness enthusiasts in the neighborhood a great opportunity to develop their grip strength, balance, coordination and climbing abilities.”
