Daily News baseball Top 10: Undefeated Crespi in No. 1 spot

This week’s Daily News high school baseball rankings, as of Tuesday, April 1.

DAILY NEWS BASEBALL TOP 10

(Records through Monday, March 31)

1. Crespi (12-0 overall, 7-0 Mission League)

The Celts swept their third Mission League opponent by beating Loyola twice by scores of 9-0 and 5-3. Crespi will face Sierra Canyon in a three-game series this week as they look to remain unbeaten both overall and in the Mission League.

2. Harvard-Westlake (9-5 overall, 6-1 Mission League)

The Wolverines are on a four-game win streak as they enter this week’s three-game series against St. Francis, which is tied for last place in the Mission League. James Tronstein went 1 for 3 with a double and two RBIs in a 12-2 win over Chaminade on March 25. Jake Kim hit a three-run home run.

3. Sierra Canyon (8-6 overall, 3-4 Mission League)

Sierra Canyon bounced back with a 10-4 win over Notre Dame after losing the first game of the home-and-home series 2-1. Dezi Delgado went 2 for 3 at the plate with two runs, an RBI and a triple and Teddy Levin went 2 for 4 with a run, four RBIs and a stolen base.

4. Oaks Christian (7-5 overall, 2-1 Marmonte League)

Calabasas handed Oaks Christian its first league loss of the season Thursday but the Lions had big wins over the Coyotes last week. They allowed a collective two runs in the wins. Quentin Young homered twice Friday and Carson Sheffer and Chad Rolison each hit one home run.

5. West Ranch (10-6 overall, 5-1 Foothill League)

The Wildcats extended their league win streak to five games by beating Saugus twice, although the Centurions didn’t make Friday’s game easy. Nolan Stoll went 2 for 5 with four RBIs and a home run in that game.

6. Calabasas (9-4 overall, 1-2 Marmonte League)

The Coyotes took a game from Oaks Christian in walk-off fashion at home but scored only one run in the teams’ other two games. Matthew Witkow tripled and AJ Seidel hit the walk-off single in the win.

7. Notre Dame (7-8 overall, 4-3 Mission League)

Last week was a battle between Notre Dame and Sierra Canyon. The Knights won 2-1 at home before falling 10-4 on the road. Beau Koch and Dru Wilson, a freshman, each doubled in the win while Jake Norolan and Phelan Bucknor each logged an RBI.

8. Chaminade (5-8 overall, 1-6 Mission League)

The Eagles have spent the last two weeks going up against Notre Dame and Harvard-Westlake. Their closest game against the Wolverines was Friday’s 4-2 loss. Freshmen Ryder Gullage and Austin Maiden were both 1 for 3 with one RBI apiece.

9. Birmingham (8-6 overall, 4-0 West Valley League)

The Patriots took a break from league play to go up against tough competition in the Boras Classic. They’ll have the chance to get back on track this week with a three-game series against Cleveland, which is tied for third place in the league standings.

10. Alemany (6-7 overall, 2-5 Mission League)

Alemany picked up its first two wins against Mission League teams this season by beating St. Francis by a combined score of 19-3. Sophomore Jonathan Alvarez went 2 for 4 with one RBI and a triple in a 4-1 win and in the next game he pitched five innings, giving up just two hits while recording six strikeouts.
