CicLAvia returns with 8 events that will close streets to cars and open them to people power

Park those vehicles because people-powered rides will once again take over streets all over the city this year with the return of CicLAvia.

“This event is really important because it removes the cars and creates park space in L.A., and L.A. needs more park space where people can play, hang out and really experience life,” said Tafarai Bayne, chief strategist for CicLAvia.

Since 2010, the citywide event has closed stretches of streets throughout the city to motorized traffic and given them over to alternative forms of transportation that includes bicycles, scooters, skateboards, pedestrians and any other form of getting around as long as it’s powered by people.

This year the season includes eight rides and it kicks off Feb. 23 with a new route along the West Adams and the  University Park areas.

“It’s one of the oldest neighborhoods in L.A. and it’s really diverse with lots of great small businesses along the way. We’re really exited to show people this community,” he said.

The route will take people along Jefferson Boulevard between La Brea and Vermont avenues for a nearly five-mile ride through the streets where people will be able to check out historic buildings, Victorian mansions and Craftsman bungalows. The next event takes place April 6 and it’s dubbed “Koreatown meets Hollywood.” The route will take participants through Hollywood, Melrose and finally Koreatown.

“There are so many small businesses here and so many restaurants. It’s just really dense culturally and we’re really excited that we’re able to make the event happen here and have people see the neighborhood,” Bayne said.

Flu season in the US is the most intense it’s been in at least 15 years

The detailed maps for the first two events are ironed out while exact routes for the rest of the CicLAvia rides will be released closer to the event dates. But for those making plans to get out of their cars and seeing the city up close at a slower pace, here are the dates and neighborhoods for the 2025 CicLAvia events.
