Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh leaves sideline temporarily because of an illness

DENVER — Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh suffered an unspecified illness and returned to the locker room briefly during their game Sunday against the Denver Broncos at Mile High Stadium. Defensive coordinator Jesse Minter took over the head coaching duties in the absence of Harbaugh.

Harbaugh returned to the sidelines before the end of the first quarter, after the Chargers had taken a 3-0 lead on Cameron Dicker’s 20-yard field goal with 9:26 remaining in the first quarter. There was no immediate update on Harbaugh’s illness or what prompted his short departure.

More to come on this story.
