THE GAME: The Angels saw their losing streak reach three games with an 8-1 defeat to the Cleveland Guardians in a Cactus League on Tuesday in Goodyear, Ariz.
PITCHING REPORT: Right-hander Jack Kochanowicz made his second start of the spring and first since missing time because of an illness and had one strikeout over three scoreless innings. He allowed three hits on 45 pitches. Fellow fifth-starter candidate Caden Dana struggled to the tune of seven runs allowed on five hits and four walks while recording just one out on 47 pitches. Dana gave up a home run to Yordys Valdes. “Each inning, he went out there he walked the first batter, and he just couldn’t command,” Manager Ron Washington said of Dana.
HITTING REPORT: Logan O’Hoppe continued his hot-hitting spring with a fifth-inning double off the wall in left-center field. O’Hoppe went 1 for 2 with a walk and is now 6 for 11 with two doubles in five Cactus League games. … Nelson Rada drove in his sixth run of the spring in nine games with a bloop single to center field in the third inning for his fifth hit. … Third-base candidate J.D. Davis reached base twice on a single and a walk.
DEFENSIVE REPORT: A day after Washington said Jo Adell was “growing” as a center fielder, there was proof of it when he made a diving catch on a sinking line drive from Bo Naylor to end the fourth inning. “He might have been having a rough time in the beginning (in center field) but it’s gonna straighten itself out,” Washington said.
