Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão is heading to the beach as the popular 45-year-old restaurant opens its first location in Santa Monica.
The chain’s latest spot at 1551 Ocean Ave. is scheduled to open Monday, April 7, adding to Fogo’s rising footprint in the area.
“Opening our 11th location in the region is a significant milestone, and Santa Monica’s vibrant culinary scene, stunning coastal beauty, and dynamic community make it the ideal setting for guests to experience the bold flavors, premium ingredients, and genuine hospitality that define the Fogo experience — just steps from the iconic pier and ocean views,” said Barry McGowan, chief executive officer of Fogo de Chão, in a statement.
The restaurant is known for its churrasco menu, which features a variety of grilled meats like steak, pork, lamb and chicken carved tableside. Churrasco originated in South America with gauchos (cowboys) who grilled meats during social gatherings.
The new corner spot includes an expansive dining room around an open churrasco grill where diners can see gaucho chefs butchering, hand carving, and grilling meats. It also features an enclosed patio and Bar Fogo, an indoor bar that will offer all-day happy hour serving $10 Brazilian inspired cocktails, $8 glasses of South American wines, and $5 beers plus shareable dishes such as the Queijo Asado, a Picanha burger, lamb “Lollipops” and lobster and shrimp tacos.
Options besides the churrasco menu include Chilean sea bass, seared tofu and black bean pasta and cauliflower steak.
Other local Fogo de Chão restaurants in Southern California include spots in Woodland Hills, Beverly Hills, El Segundo, Huntington Beach, Irvine and other nearby areas.
