A big rig hit an overpass Friday morning on the 5 Freeway in Sun Valley, and the two right lanes were shut down while Caltrans cleaned up chunks of concrete and checked the extent of damage to the bridge.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 9:41 a.m. Friday on the southbound 5 Freeway at Sheldon Street.
A witness told the CHP the big rig hit the overpass and that large chunks of concrete were in lanes.
The CHP issued a SigAlert for the two right lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway, and Caltrans planned to follow that with a hard closure to assess structural damage and clear debris. The HOV and lanes 1 and 2 were open.
