Beach hazards statement issued for Los Angeles County beaches until Friday night

Catalina/Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu and Los Angeles County Beaches are under a beach hazards statement which was issued by the National Weather Service on Friday at 3:32 a.m. The statement is in effect until 9 p.m.

The NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA says to anticipate, “Elevated surf of 4 to 6 feet with local sets to 7 feet and dangerous rip currents.”

“There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Waves can wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats nearshore,” according to the NWS. “Remain out of the water due to hazardous swimming conditions, or stay near occupied lifeguard towers. Rock jetties can be deadly locations in such conditions, so stay off the rocks.”
