Torrance Superior Court was closed on Wednesday morning, Nov, 13, after authorities evacuated the building because of a suspicious package.
Around 7:15 a.m., Torrance police were called in to assist the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department at the courthouse, Torrance Lt. Paul Kranke said. A suspicious package had been found inside, prompting the evacuation.
It was unclear whether the package contained an explosive or other dangerous materials.
Police declined to provide details.
A sheriff’s bomb squad robot approached and detonated what appeared to be an orange inflatable item attached to what may have been a cooler under a bench near the courthouse entrance. Reports from the scene indicated there was a note attached to the item.
Courthouse business was rescheduled.
No further details were made available by officials.
