Angeles National Forest is closed to public today closed until Wednesday amid fire worries

Angeles National Forest is closed to the public today until Wednesday at midnight because of critical fire danger and to protect natural resources.

The Angeles National Forest posted the closures on social media Tuesday.

The following activities are prohibited within the forest boundaries:

— Entering the Angeles National Forest

— Traveling on any National Forest System road within the Angeles National Forest

— Using any National Forest System trail within the Angeles National Forest

The restrictions apply to all visitors, including those with valid California Campfire Permits. Exemptions are granted only to federal, state, or local officers, or members of organized rescue or firefighting forces.

The fire danger level in the forest is critical and prompted the decision to close access to the forest areas. Violators will be subject to fines up to $5,000 for individuals and $10,000 for organizations, and possibly prison.

The critical danger level is a result of the wildfires in the region, including the Eaton Fire which has burned more than 14,000 acres in Altadena and Pasadena.

The Angeles National Forest spans nearly 700,000 acres and provides a popular destination for outdoor recreation.
