Ally Sentnor’s 1st Angel City FC goal salvages draw with Washington

LOS ANGELES — Ally Sentnor thought she had her first Angel City FC goal in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Washington Spirit.

However, after the video review intervened, she was left waiting, but just until the second half.

Sentnor, who was acquired in a cash trade with the Kansas City Current in June, scored from approximately 25 yards out, into the upper corner past an outstretched Sandy MacIver to help Angel City secure a point in a 1-1 draw against the Washington Spirit.

The goal was her first from outside the box since March of 2024.

Angel City scored what it believed to be the opening goal in the 38th minute from Sentnor. However, referee Alyssa Pennington was called over the video review monitor and would eventually rule no goal due to a handball on Angel City’s Prisca Chilufya in the build-up. The goal would have been Sentnor’s first with the team.

The game wasn’t all quiet from there, especially in stoppage time. In the final stages, Rodman went on a break and set up Ashley Hatch, who was making a central run, but she was unable to get the ball on goal.

Even later, the Spirit earned a foul and a free kick in the 97th minute, but was unable to put a shot on target, with the game eventually ending in the 98th minute. The draw was the third consecutive for Angel City (7-7-4), who remains in ninth place on 25 points.

The Spirit, who entered the game tied for second in the NWSL, opened the scoring in the 65th minute on a Trinity Rodman goal.

Rodman, who had been bottled up throughout the game, finally found space and after receiving a pass just over midfield from Tara Rudd, attacked down the left and went high inside the near post for the goal.

The goal was the 10th of the season for the Newport Beach native. The Spirit had just two shots on goal in the game.

Angel City snapped a four-game losing streak against the Spirit last year, winning the first meeting of the season 4-3 in D.C. thanks to a 98th-minute stoppage-time goal from Riley Tiernan.

It was a day of returns to the active roster for a pair of Angel City fan favorites.

Savy King, who last played April 3, had been sidelined with a foot injury. She made her return to the active roster for the game and came on as a sub in the 67th minute, replacing Evelyn Shores. King assisted on Sentnor’s game-tying goal.

Sydney Leroux, who missed all of the 2025 season and all of 2026 before Sunday, was activated for the game. During her absence, Leroux went public with her anorexic diagnosis. In the video that she posted in November of 2025, she admitted that she was “absolutely terrified” to open up regarding her diagnosis. Adding that “I will never let my fear be bigger than the possibility of saving someone’s life.”

Leroux made her return in stoppage time, to a roar from the home crowd.

Angel City’s homestand continues next Sunday against first-place Gotham FC.
