Fitness enthusiasts — and fans of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach — will soon have the chance for a unique experience on the racetrack.
The 7th iteration of the Grand Prix Foundation of Long Beach’s annual 5K run and walk will return on Sunday, April 6.
Though the actual Grand Prix won’t get underway until the following weekend, April 11 to 13, the annual 5K offers fans an opportunity to experience burn rubber of their own — at least, with their sneakers.
Participants will run a two-lap tour of the race course, with the finish line at the Grand Prix’s start and finish line on Shoreline Drive, according to the Foundation.
The race for the general public will start at 7:30 a.m.; with the elite/pro race — for those who can finish the 5k in less than 25 minutes — starting half an hour earlier.
There will also be a special race — the Kids’ Turbo 1K — for young ones under 12. That competition will take place after the main events.
Every runner will get a finisher medal, an official Grand Prix Foundation 5K t-shirt, and two complimentary general admission tickets to the first day of the Grand Prix itself.
“There will also be photo ops and activities in the 5K festival area at the conclusion of the run,” the Foundation’s website said.
The Grand Prix Foundation, meanwhile, was established in 1991 and has donated more than $4.2 million to local charities since then.
The organization also runs the Robert E. Leslie Memorial Scholarship Program, which provides $1,500 grants to seven graduating seniors from Long Beach-area high schools.
Registration for the adult 5K starts at $54, while the the Kids’ Turbo 1K will cost about $17.
