$25,000 reward offered for information on Carson hit-and-run that killed a woman, 54

CARSON — Authorities are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the person responsible for a hit-and-run crash that killed a 54-year-old woman in Carson.

Cherise Johnson was struck on Aug. 31 shortly after 6:05 p.m. at the corner of Del Amo Boulevard and Tillman Avenue as she was walking southbound in the intersection before being hit by a vehicle traveling westbound on Del Amo Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The Carson City Council voted unanimously on Nov. 6 to approve a $25,000 reward for information leading to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of the person responsible for Johnson’s death.

“We sympathize with the victim’s family and hope that this reward will assist in expediting the identification, arrest, and conviction of those who caused this tragedy,” Carson Mayor Lula Davis-Holmes said in a statement.

“This could’ve happened to anyone. I’m calling on all of our Carson family. If anyone has information to assist the Carson’s Sheriff’s Station, please come forward.”

Sheriff’s officials said witnesses of the collision stated that the vehicle was a white SUV.
