1 dead, 2 injured in apparent wrong-way crash on 405 in Sherman Oaks

One person was killed and two others injured in a multi-vehicle collision early Tuesday, Feb. 11, apparently involving a wrong-way driver that backed up traffic for miles on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks.

California Highway Patrol officers responded at 4:06 a.m. to the southbound 405 near the Valley Vista Boulevard exit where the collision began, CHP Officer Sergio Garcia said.

Reports from the scene indicated a motorist driving the wrong way was involved in the crash, Garcia said, but he did not know to what extent.

Firefighters dispatched to the location at 4:10 a.m. pronounced one person dead at the scene, said Mark McLean of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Paramedics took another person, in unknown condition, to a hospital. A third person declined medical treatment, McLean said.
