Zaccharie Risacher Benched All Game After Embarrassing Mistake

The Atlanta Hawks lost all confidence in former number one pick Zaccharie Risacher after he missed two consecutive layups in Game 1 against the New York Knicks. Atlanta hoped to keep Risacher in the rotation off the bench, like their regular season game plan. However, the youngster’s embarrassing mistake of missing two consecutive layups led to the Hawks benching him and never putting him back in for the rest of the game.

Risacher ended Game 1 with the following stat line further harming his reputation:

2 minutes, 0 points, 4 rebounds, 0 assists, 0 for 3 FG, 1 personal foul

Risacher technically made four mistakes in 2 minutes via missing three total shots and committing a foul. Head coach Quin Snyder benched Risacher after his only two minutes of action came at the end of the first quarter. Risacher remained on the bench all game and didn’t return at all as Atlanta didn’t want to risk more mistakes.

Only eight players received relevant playing time today for the Hawks to shorten their rotation and remove Risacher from his usual playing time of about 20 minutes. Jonathan Kuminga played 27 minutes, and the starters all received more time to make up for Risacher’s absence.

Zaccharie Risacher Becoming A Joke In The NBA

Number one draft picks are expected to become All-Stars and put together Hall of Fame careers when entering the NBA. Icons like LeBron James, Tim Duncan, and Shaquille O’Neal ensured that the future top overall picks all had pressure to live up to their accomplishments taking over the basketball world.

Unfortunately for Risacher, his name is trending towards the negative side of busts who get selected with the first pick. Risacher had a disappointing second season this year and failed to live up to the hype of getting selected as the best player from the 2024 NBA Draft class.

Atlanta badly needs help from unexpected players to have a chance against the higher seeded Knicks. The lower seeds with less experience often require someone out of the ordinary stepping up, but it doesn’t appear that the Hawks can get that from Risacher this postseason.

Will Zaccharie Risacher Get Playing Time In Game 2?

Snyder made a bold call by completely removing Risacher from the rotation since the missed layups looked like he wasn’t ready for the bright lights of the playoffs. Risacher could get the same opportunity of entering the game at the end of the first quarter and trying to prove himself.

Most coaches don’t fully remove a player from the rotation after one game of mistakes, but Risacher has looked overmatched all season. Atlanta losing Game 1 means that Game 2 is nearly a must win game to pose a real threat in this series.

Kuminga, Gabe Vincent, and Mouhamed Gueye are the only other bench players to get real playing time in the rotation right now. Either the Hawks will play their starters close to 40 minutes to improve their chances of winning or Risacher will get one more chance. However, expect the leash to be equally short and for him to get pulled if he makes another bad mistake
