Yankees Recall Pitcher Who Hasn’t Pitched in MLB Since 2022

The New York Yankees have made another move to their pitching staff.

New York has had a revolving door in the bullpen this season, as the Yankees have been using plenty of pitchers. On Thursday, the Yankees optioned Yerry De Los Santos and signed Brendan Beck to the MLB roster.

Now, after Thursday’s game, MLB insider Francys Romero revealed the Yankees are set to call up right-handed reliever Kervin Castro.

“The Yankees are also calling up Venezuelan RHP Kervin Castro, who will return to MLB, per sources. Castro, 27, last appeared in MLB in 2022 (Cubs, Giants). He posted a 1-0 record with a 3.14 ERA in 14.1 innings and 10 strikeouts at Scranton Triple-A,” Romero wrote.

Castro is 27-years-old who hasn’t been in the MLB since 2022. He began his MLB career with the San Francisco Giants in 2021 and, in August of 2022, was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Cubs.

The Yankees selected Castro from the Astros in the minor league phase of the Rule 5 draft on December 6, 2023, and he’s been in the system since then. In November, the Yankees added Castro to their 40-man roster to prevent him from reaching minor league free agency.

In Triple-A this season, Castro has been solid out of the bullpen and will now provide Aaron Boone a fresh arm.

More to come.
