The New York Yankees made a key decision on slugger Jasson Dominguez ahead of Saturday’s game.
Dominguez left Wednesday’s game after being hit by a pitch, and he had to undergo further tests to see if an IL stint was needed. However, after not being in the lineup on Friday, Dominguez is back in the lineup on Saturday, batting sixth and playing DH.
The Yankees’ lineup ahead of their home game against the Baltimore Orioles on Saturday is as follows:
- T. Grisham CF
- B. Rice 1B
- A. Judge RF
- C. Bellinger LF
- J. Chisholm Jr. 2B
- J. Domínguez DH
- J. Escarra C
- R. McMahon 3B
- J. Caballero SS
Dominguez being back in the lineup is huge, as manager Aaron Boone announced on Friday that the CT scans came back clean.
“Aaron Boone said Jasson Dominguez’s CT scan came back clean. He was already doing some baseball activities before Boone spoke, the manager hopes to have him available off the bench,” Yankees insider Gary Phillips wrote on X.
Dominguez was available off the bench on Friday but wasn’t expected to play due to a left-hander being on the mound.
Dominguez is hitting .111 in 9 at-bats since being recalled. In Triple-A this season, he’s hitting .326 with 3 home runs and 15 RBIs, while last year in the Bronx, he hit .257 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs in 123 games.
Yankees Fans React to Dominguez Back in Lineup
Dominguez being back in the lineup is positive news for Yankees fans.
The young slugger is expected to be an impactful hitter for the Yankees this season, and fans are glad the injury wasn’t serious.
“Yay Dominguez is back!,” a fan wrote.
“JASSON IS BACK,” a fan added.
“The Martian is back,” a fan wrote.
Dominguez will get plenty of runway with the Yankees with Giancarlo Stanton on the IL. And, with Trent Grisham struggling, Dominguez could earn more playing time.
“Jasson Dominguez is launching a home run today,” a fan added.
“That lineup is stacked with power and athleticism, especially in the middle with Judge, Bellinger, and Chisholm. If Grisham and Domínguez get on base ahead of them, that top-to-middle stretch can flip a game fast. Weathers on the mound is going to need early command because there’s no easy inning there,” a fan wrote.
“I hope Jasson crushes it twice today and hits a triple,” a fan wrote.
The Yankees signed Dominguez as an International Free Agent in 2019.
New York Looking for Second-Straight Win
The Yankees are looking to win the second game of their four-game series against the Orioles.
In the series opener, Will Warren was stellar as he went 6.1 innings, allowing 2 runs (one earned) on 3 hits and 1 walk and striking out 9 batters.
“You say Warren is the guy we haven’t talked about,” Boone said postgame. “The body of work starting with Spring Training has been excellent — over and over again. … It just built up in Spring Training. It just carried into the season.
“The stuff has been excellent. The strike-throwing is there. He was in command. You see all the swings and misses. He did a great job using the sinker in combination with using the four-seamer. The sweeper looked good. He mixed in the changeup well. Just another really strong performance.”
The Yankees cruised to a 7-2 win and improved to 21-11.
