Free agent Cody Bellinger is reportedly “mulling over multiple offers from multiple teams and is expected to make a decision shortly”, stated Jim Bowden in a tweet Tuesday morning.
Bellinger, as we currently know, has a five-year offer ranging from $155-160 million reportedly on the table from the New York Yankees, which includes opt-outs after the second and third years, as well as a big signing bonus, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Brendan Kuty of The Athletic.

Bellinger posted a 5.1 WAR (wins above replacement) for the Yankees in 2025 as their everyday left fielder, grading well above average defensively, as well as being able to cover any of the three outfield spots if needed and first base. Bellinger also put up substantial offensive numbers, hitting 29 home runs, 98 RBI’s, .813 OPS, and a 125 OPS+. Also, Bellinger cutting down on his swing-and-misses in 2025 and adopting a more power/contact approach, especially with two strikes, during his Yankees campaign, makes him all the more valuable to teams.
Mets And Yankees Both Need Bellinger
We know the Yankees need him, as well as the Mets, who have an open lane in left and center field after trading away Brandon Nimmo. The Yankees and Mets are both reportedly in on him, but the Mets are only willing to do a short-term, higher AAV (average annual value) type of deal for Bellinger, according to Will Sammon of The Athletic.
Sammon notes that the Mets’ signing of Bo Bichette to a three-year, $126 million deal with opt-outs points to the odds “that’s the more likely route” they’d wanna take for Bellinger, which obviously contrasts with the Yankees’ offer, which has more years attached at a likely lower AAV. Bellinger and his camp are reportedly looking for a seven-year deal with an AAV between 36-37 million per season, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post and Bob Klapisch of NJ.com.
Blue Jays Reportedly Not Interested In Signing Bellinger
It’s currently not known what other suitors Bellinger has besides the Yankees and Mets. Blue Jays beat writer Mitch Bannon reported in his latest article earlier this morning that “despite Boras linking the Jays to Bellinger, the Jays haven’t appeared particularly interested in the 30-year-old free agent this winter”, says Bannon.
With this latest development of Toronto not having any genuine interest, and the Mets and Yankees having interest, as well as Bellinger’s side reportedly weighing “multiple offers”, the question remains: Is this a strategy on Boras part, or what other teams are out there who are interested in Bellinger and have made him an offer? Or is it just the Yankees and Mets?

The Bellinger free agency rumor mill will come to an end relatively soon, as teams have been making their final offers. Where Bellinger ends up at this point, if not one of the New York teams in either the Yankees or Mets, is anybody’s guess. Could there perhaps be a mystery team involved in the Bellinger sweepstakes that we don’t know about, or is Boras simply using this as a negotiating tactic to get the Yankees to outbid themselves in this free agency saga? Boras knows how badly the Yankees need Bellinger, but the Yankees don’t want to reportedly “budge” from their current offer, so whether the two sides work it out will be interesting to see.
It’s also worth noting whether Bellinger would consider taking more money per year but fewer years, with a higher AAV, on a 3-4-year deal with opt-outs from a team like the Mets.
