Yankees Announce Major Anthony Volpe News Before Red Sox Game

The New York Yankees currently hold a 14-9 record early on in the 2026 MLB season. They have had a lukewarm start to the year, although it is clear that they have the necessary talent to be a serious contender in the American League.

On Tuesday, the Yankees began their three-game series against the Boston Red Sox with a dominant 4-0 win. They are set to face off against the Red Sox in Game 2 of the series on Wednesday night.

Ahead of Wednesday night’s rivalry showdown, New York has announced a major update on shortstop Anthony Volpe.

Volpe has missed the entire season thus far as he has continued to recover from a partially torn left labrum. While he hasn’t been able to play yet, that time is coming soon.

Yankees, Aaron Boone Announce Major Anthony Volpe News

Aaron Boone, the Yankees’ manager, has spoken out with an update about Volpe’s recovery process. New York is closing in on having the shortstop back in the lineup.

How far out is Volpe from returning to the diamond? Boone revealed that the young infielder has had “zero issues” throughout his recovery process. He also shared a timeline for Volpe’s return to the field.

“Realistically, he’s still ten days [or] two weeks away, I would think,” Boone said.

Getting Volpe back on the field will be a major boost for the Yankees. There has been some frustration with his development, but the former top prospect has shown signs of becoming the player New York has hoped he would be.

What Would Anthony Volpe’s Return Bring to the Yankees?

Last season, Volpe put together a decent season that also included disappointment for the Yankees. He played in 153 games, hitting 19 home runs to go along with 72 RBI and 18 stolen bases. In addition, he produced a slash line of .212/.272/.391.

Clearly, New York needs Volpe to take a step forward at the plate.

Defensively, the infielder has had his fair share of issues. He committed a career-high 19 errors throughout the course of the 2025 season.

While there are reasons to be concerned about Volpe’s development and lack of high-tier production, he still possesses elite potential. There is a reason that the Yankees felt they had a budding superstar coming up through their system just a few short years ago.

Hopefully, Volpe is able to make his return to the diamond in the timeframe listed above by Boone. After he makes that return, the hope turns to being that he can finally take the big step forward expected from him.
