Yankees’ Aaron Boone Reveals Huge Carlos Rodon Injury Update

The New York Yankees‘ rotation continues to be without two of their best arms in Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole. While the righty has begun a rehab assignment, that’s yet to be the case for Rodon.

However, skipper Aaron Boone revealed on Saturday that Rodon is still expected back before Cole, and his next step will be determined after a live BP session, via Bryan Hoch.

Carlos Rodon Already Had Setback in Return to New York Yankees

Rodon was close to beginning a rehab assignment last month after undergoing offseason elbow surgery. However, a hamstring injury followed, setting him back a few weeks. While the Yankees are still monitoring that ailment, the southpaw appears to be progressing.

Rodon was fantastic for New York last season, compiling an 18-9 record and 3.09 ERA.  He’s an integral piece for this Bronx Bombers rotation, possessing serious swing and miss stuff, plus several elite off-speed pitches.

The veteran did pitch through discomfort for most of the 2025 campaign, however, which led to last October’s procedure to repair his throwing elbow. When healthy, Rodon is one of the best in the big leagues.

Rodon Return Likely a Few Weeks Away

The Yankees need to be cautious with Rodon. But, even though he is slightly behind Cole in the ramp-up process, the ball club expects him to be back in the rotation a few weeks before Cole, who tossed 44 pitches on Friday evening.

It makes sense that New York is taking their time with Cole. After all, he missed all of last season due to Tommy John surgery. This isn’t a simple recovery process. Rodon’s injury was by no means as serious.

“We’ll probably want him to get up to a certain amount and probably repeat that even once he gets up there, so nothing is imminent here — we’ll make sure we’re disciplined and take the right amount of time,” the skipper said of Cole, via SNY.

“Coming off a year where not only he’s rehabbing and coming back from a major surgery, but that means no innings, so we want to put him in a position where he’s not only ready to go at the start, but he’s able to carry that throughout,” Boone continued about Cole’s recovery.

The return of both gives the Yankees a scary-looking rotation, joining Cam Schittler and Max Fried at the top end. New York’s rotation owns a 3.90 ERA so far. When they’re at full strength in late May/early June, it’ll be a nightmare for opposing lineups.
