WWE’s Plan for Finn Balor at WrestleMania 42 Revealed: Report

At Elimination Chamber: Chicago, Finn Balor failed to win the World Heavyweight Championship from CM Punk. Balor goes back to the end of the line heading into WrestleMania 42.

The Judgment Day member dominated the majority of the match inside the loud United Center, but Punk still managed to earn the win. The Second City Saint is now moving on to the main event of WrestleMania 42 against Roman Reigns.

But what’s next for Balor?

WWE’s Plans for Balor at WrestleMania

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, WWE could be planning a babyface turn for Balor. Meltzer mentioned that Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh were nowhere to be found at Elimination Chamber.

Balor also shook hands with Punk after their match, with the crowd cheering his gesture. Meltzer added that the initial plans were to have Balor vs. Dominik at SummerSlam, but based on what happened in Chicago, it might happen at WrestleMania 42.

“Judgment Day was doing so well,” Meltzer said, via Ringside News. “They didn’t want to rush it. But lately, Finn’s been certainly building towards being a babyface. He did those babyface promos leading into this match. You know, ‘I have to win it on my own’ and all that.”

There has been tension within Judgment Day more than ever before. Liv Morgan eliminated Raquel Rodriguez at the Royal Rumble. Morgan and Roxanne Perez tried to help Rodriguez win the Women’s World Title against Stephanie Vaquer, but it backfired.

Dominik and Balor have been at odds since last year’s WrestleMania. “Dirty” Dom pinned Balor in the Fatal 4-Way match with Bron Breakker and Penta to become the Intercontinental Champion.

Balor Open to Becoming The Demon Again

There were rumors that Balor was going to bring back The Demon persona for his match against Punk at Elimination Chamber. However, it didn’t happen, and it has been nearly three years since the character last appeared.

Speaking to The Radio Times, Balor explained why he hasn’t tapped into The Demon just yet.

“It’s really more than just paint,” Balor said. “It’s a mental state. It really is an alter ego for me, and it’s something that I need to tap into. It’s something that I like to do, something that I certainly want to do again. But like with the music, timing is everything, and the timing has to be right. I’m sure we’ll get there in the future.”

The Demon’s most recent appearance was at WrestleMania 39. He lost to Edge in a Hell in a Cell match.

Retirement on Balor’s Mind

Balor has been a pro wrestler for 25 years and counting. He’s already 44 years old and has accomplished a lot of things in his WWE career, though a proper world title reign could complete it.

In an appearance on SHAK Wrestling, Balor discussed AJ Styles‘ retirement and how it has affected him.

“Seeing him retire brought it home to me that my days are numbered,” Balor said. “AJ has been an ever-present for me for the last 25 years.”

Balor and Styles are forever intertwined because of their Bullet Club connection. However, they also formed a bond during their WWE tenure.
