Woman hit by gunfire she thought was fireworks near Chinatown Cermak Red Line

A woman was struck by gunfire she thought was fireworks Sunday night near the Chinatown CTA Red Line stop.

Around 7:45 p.m., a 27-year-old woman was walking east with a friend in the 100 block of West Cermak Road when they saw a black vehicle driving by and heard gunfire they thought were fireworks, according to a police report obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times.

When the woman realized she was shot in the arm, they ran to the Red Line station to call for help, according to the report.

She was taken to Stroger Hospital where she was listed in fair condition, police said.

Police were checking for CTA video and no arrests have been made.

Area detectives are investigating.
