Woman found fatally shot in Oakland

OAKLAND — A woman was fatally shot Thursday morning in the San Antonio district of East Oakland, authorities said.

Authorities are in the process of confirming her identity and notifying family members before releasing her name.  She is believed to be in her 20s, police said.

The woman was found fatally shot about 2:07 a.m. Thursday in the roadway in the 2000 block of International Boulevard by officers who had been flagged down by people in the area,  police said. The area is a mixture of residences and small businesses.

Officers attempted life saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A motive for the killing is under investigation.  No arrests have been made and no suspect information has been released.

The killing is the 52nd homicide investigated by Oakland police this year and the first since July 13.  Last year at this time police had investigated  57 homicides in the city.
