Woman dies in custody at Denver jail

A woman in custody at Denver’s Downtown Detention Center died Tuesday after she was found unresponsive in a housing unit, sheriff’s officials said.

The woman was found at 4:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead after a medical team tried to resuscitate her, the Denver Sheriff Department said in a news release.

Her death will be investigated by the Denver Police Department, and her name and cause of death will be released by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.
