Woman dies after being shot during argument in Englewood home

A woman has died after she was shot Friday night during an argument inside an Englewood apartment.

Shante Porter, 37, was arguing with someone she knew around 8:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of South Emerald Avenue when the person pulled out a handgun and shot her in the stomach, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Porter was taken in critical condition to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead about 4:30 a.m. Saturday, according to police and the medical examiner’s office.

The gunman was taken into custody by responding officers, and a firearm was recovered at the scene, police said.

Charges are pending as detectives investigate.
