A 37-year-old woman was charged last week with homicide and assault in the Christmas Eve crash that killed an off-duty Adams County sheriff’s deputy, according to court records.
Kayla Carroll faces charges of vehicular homicide, two counts of vehicular assault, driving under restraint and using fake license plates, prosecutors from the 19th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.
Around 5:20 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2023, off-duty Adams County deputy Joshua Maloy was killed when a driver drifted into oncoming traffic and struck his Toyota Tacoma on County Road 49, about 16 miles south of Greeley. Maloy died at the scene of the crash.
