Woman, 68, dies a week after West Side hit-and-run

Police are looking for a grey Hyundai Sonata with front-end damage that fled the scene in Austin last month after running into a 68-year-old woman who died Monday.

Just before 8 p.m. on Feb. 24, Pamela Lukes, 68, was walking across the street at North and Lotus avenues when a grey Hyundai Sonata ran into her and left the scene, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Lukes, of Austin, suffered trauma, a laceration to her head, and fractures to her legs, police said. She was taken to the Loyola University Medical Center initially in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 9:23 p.m. Monday, police and the medical examiner’s office said.

The Hyundai, missing a driver’s side mirror and driver’s side front end damage, was last seen going west on North Avenue, according to a community alert by police. The sedan is possibly a 2007 to 2010 Hyundai Sonata.
