ENGLAND: San Jose residents Lila Naimark and Jon Rortveit celebrated their 25th anniversary recently on a trip to England made extra special by Sarah, their Brit-based daughter, who booked them rooms at “one of Britain’s elegant country hotels, The Pig,” Lila says. “Each of the nine Pigs is a restored country manor, the heart of which is the kitchen garden and a focus on a 25-mile menu, i.e., all their food is sourced within a 25-mile radius. They feature English wines which — thanks to climate change — are becoming a thing. We loved our time at The Pig Near Bath and look forward to enjoying the newly-opened Pig in the Cotswolds.”

TRAVEL TIPS: “Special Thing No. 2 was lunch at Sketch, a quite quirky London restaurant. The food was divine (Isle of Wight tomatoes!), the decor magical. But the bathroom was the star. One of the wait staff responded to my ‘which way to the..umm.. loo?’ question by directing me to an unmarked door, which opened to reveal a large bright room, with twelve 6½ foot-tall pods decorated with squigglies. Rather than the usual boring rectangular stalls, the Sketch bathroom has egg-shaped pods! Sinks and mirrors are along the walls of the big room. Do put it on your list for your next London visit. Recommend going for lunch, as it’s less busy.”
