Will County correctional officer accused of sexually assaulting a child, sheriff’s office says

A Will County Sheriff’s Office employee was in court Friday facing charges of sexually assaulting a child, officials said.

Daniel T. Herod, 41, appeared in a morning hearing, charged with predatory criminal sexual assault of a child under 13 and criminal sexual assault of a family member under 18, according to Will County court records.

Details were not immediately released.

Herod was taken into custody Thursday by U.S. Homeland Security agents at his home in suburban Elmwood Park.

He has been employed by the sheriff’s office since 2010, most recently as a Deputy Correctional Officer at the Will County Adult Detention Facility, the sheriff’s office said.

Herod is due back in court on April 4.
