You probably haven’t heard, but the Bears allowed a rather long pass to be completed by the Commanders on the final play of last week’s game and — are you ready for this one? — actually lost because of it.
Please, try to contain the sudden horror.
In this week’s “Polling Place,” your home for Sun-Times sports polls on the social platform X, we asked how the Bears will respond to the aforementioned turn of events.
“What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” @JeffreyCanalia commented. “This team will rally.”
Not so, according to @ClowbogBeborp, who opined that the Bears won’t get better without an in-season coaching change — and that such a change isn’t coming.
Will the Bears win or lose Sunday at the Cardinals? That was the next matter for consideration.
“Win — if they can keep Matt Eberflus in the locker room during the game,” @RonaldVoigt4 wrote.
Last, we asked for your gut reaction to the White Sox’ hiring of Will Venable as manager. There was a dark theme among some of the comments.
“Does it matter who flies the Hindenburg?” @RogersParkMan asked.
“Rearranging deck chairs on Jerry Reinsdorf’s Titanic,” @JerryFefff888 called it.
On to the polls:
Poll No. 1: The Bears’ brutal loss at Washington led to week-long second-guessing from fans, media and players alike. Will this team be better or worse for it?
It’s time for this week’s “Polling Place.” Let us hear from you! Selected comments will appear in Sunday’s paper.

Upshot: According to our decision desk, it’s still too close to call between “better” and “worse.” Is it too late for a town hall with the “neithers”?
Poll No. 2: Will the Bears win or lose Sunday against the Cardinals in Arizona?

Upshot: As of Friday, the Cardinals were slight (1½-point) betting favorites. Our voters, on the other hand, are big on the Bears. Good thing we’re way smarter in Chicago than folks are everywhere else.
Poll No. 3: What’s your gut reaction to the White Sox’ hiring of Will Venable as manager?
Poll No. 3: What’s your gut reaction to the White Sox’ hiring of Will Venable as manager?

Upshot: Any time only 6.1% opt for “not a fan” on literally anything having to do with the Sox, it’s basically a miracle.
