Who makes the best green chile in Denver? Vote now in our annual food bracket challenge.

Perhaps no other culinary debate makes people’s blood boil in Colorado more than green chile.

Not only do we share claims of ownership to this dish with New Mexico, but there are multiple styles, colors and ingredients. That passion is why The Denver Post chose green chile for this year’s March Madness food bracket, which kicks off today with 32 restaurants in the running.

When we asked readers for suggestions on their favorite spots, we got hundreds and hundreds (and hundreds) of responses with at least 80 different restaurants represented, from some longtime chile champions to smaller holes-in-the-wall. We used many of those suggestions as well as our own faves to cull down the list. Now it is up to you to vote for which ones you like the most.

The first round is open now through 9 a.m. on Monday, March 3. The next round begins Wednesday, March 5.

Please remember to play fairly as we continue to vote. We’ll do our part to monitor each round to make sure the voting isn’t being spammed. Also, we hope that you’ll use this competition as a guide to discovering some new green chile spots near you.
