White Sox sign outfielder Mike Tauchman

The White Sox signed outfielder Mike Tauchman to a one-year deal Monday, a source confirmed to the Sun-Times.

The left-handed-hitting Tauchman, 33, appeared in 109 games for the Cubs in 2024, batting .248/.357/.366 with seven home runs in his second season on the North Side.

Tauchman, who plays three outfield positions, is a Palatine native and Fremd High School graduate. He also has played for the Rockies, Yankees and Giants.

He was projected to earn $2.9 million in arbitration in 2025, but the Cubs didn’t tender him a contract. The deal was reported hours after general manager Chris Getz said at the winter meetings in Dallas that he wanted to add a right fielder.

The Sox signed right-handed-hitting outfielder Austin Slater, 31, to a one-year deal last week. These two moves give them protection in the outfield, where Dominic Fletcher, a plus defender, batted just .206/.252/.256 last season. The Sox didn’t tender a contract offer to Gavin Sheets and are discussing center fielder Luis Robert Jr. in trade talks.

Slater played for the Giants, Reds and Orioles during the 2024 season, batting .209/.321/.266 with two home runs in a combined 84 games.

Tauchman has a .241/.344/.374 hitting line in 474 career games covering seven seasons. He also played in Korea in 2022.
