White Sox name Ryan Fuller director of hitting

Former Orioles coach Ryan Fuller was officially named White Sox director of hitting Thursday.

Fuller, 34, was the Orioles co-hitting coach since 2022. Sox GM Chris Getz said at the general managers last week that Fuller would be taking the position, a supervising role not unlike Brian Bannister’s as director of pitching.

Fuller will oversee all aspects of hitting throughout the organization and will work closely with minor league hitting coaches, staff and players.

The Sox were last in multiple offensive categories the last two seasons, in which they combined to lose 222 games. The Orioles ranked among major league leaders in multiple categories last season, including homers (second), extra-base hits (third), slugging (third) and runs (fourth).

“That’s certainly an area we wanted to prioritize this offseason, and we’re very happy to hire Ryan in the director role,” Getz said.

“Very talented. … We know it’s a tall task to take on hitting. But we know we’re an organization that needs help, and we felt like we found someone that could really supplement and help lead us to a better position for future success on the offensive side.”
