The White Sox claimed right-hander Penn Murfee off waivers from the Astros on Monday and also announced that righties Matt Foster and Jimmy Lambert elected free agency in lieu of accepting outright assignments.
Murfee, 30, spent the entire 2024 season on the injured list following Tommy John surgery. He was signed by the Braves as a free agent on November 30, 2023, and was claimed by Houston off waivers on March 27, 2024.
Murfee owns a 5-2 record with a 2.70 ERA in 80 career appearances (one start) over two major-league seasons with the Mariners (2022-23).
Lambert, 29, spent the entire 2024 season on the 60-day injured list with right rotator cuff strain and underwent season-ending surgery on August 24.
Foster, 29, made six appearances with the White Sox last season, posting a 2.70 ERA.
