What to do this weekend: Tennyson Street Fair, Cheyenne Frontier Days, comedy

Sip, shop, share good times on Tennyson Street

Saturday. Denver’s Tennyson Street is home to excellent restaurants, thirst-quenching breweries and some of the city’s best all-around vibes — all of which will be on display Saturday, July 20, during the 2nd annual Tennyson Street Fair.

According to organizers, 15,000 people joined the inaugural event last year, which shut down its namesake street to make way for vendors selling handmade goods, a stage for live music and more. This year promises 100-plus local businesses partaking in the action and programming such as yoga, music and kids attractions. Best of all, it’s free to attend.

The Tennyson Street Fair runs from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and takes place between West 41st and West 43rd avenues. Find more information at tennysonstreetfair.com. — Tiney Ricciardi

Four Mile lights up the night

Friday-Sept. 29. “Immersive entertainment” may be a graying buzz phrase, but it’s still a treat when done right. Four Mile Historic Park in Denver is keeping that in mind as it brings back its Bright Nights installation, with all-new, interactive and family-friendly features this year.

“People can play on colorful swing sets, perform on lantern drums, and dance on an ever-changing colorful dancefloor …” organizers wrote. The “larger-than-life lantern installations” include a mythical dragon that blows smoke, Colorado wildlife and flowers, a crystal forest with unicorns, and creatures from Chinese mythology, they added.

Aldean, Jelly Roll at Cheyenne Frontier Days

Friday-July 28. The 128-year-told Cheyenne Frontier Days is the third leg of a chair that makes Colorado and Wyoming the biggest rodeo states in the region (the others being the National Western Stock Show and Greeley Stampede). As the biggest outdoor rodeo in the world, however, Cheyenne towers over them all.

This year’s familiar events include rodeos galore, a parade, an airshow, a carnival midway, local food and drink, and lots (and lots) of concerts as part of its Frontier Nights series. Those include the kickoff show on Friday, July 19, from Turnpike Troubadors, and more from Jason Aldean (July 20), Jelly Roll (July 21), Machine Gun Kelly (July 24), T-Pain and Ludacris (July 25), Lainey Wilson (July 26), and Thomas Rhett (July 27).

Events take place at the Frontier Day Events Center, 1230 W. 8th Ave. in Cheyenne, Wyo. Tickets vary in price by event, with concerts typically $75-$225. Visit cfdrodeo.com for full pricing and a schedule of events. — John Wenzel

Comedy Bang! Bang! still slaps

Wednesday. We may be a few years out from the pop-culture heyday of “Comedy Bang Bang!,” which enjoyed a talk-show run on IFC after blowing up as an improvised, character-driven comedy podcast and weekly showcase in L.A. Now the live podcast-recording version, headed by “Mr. Show” veteran and Bang! Bang! founder Scott Aukerman, is coming back to Denver as part of its reliable touring schedule.

That’s a very good thing, as Aukerman is a crack curator when it comes to hilarious comedic voices. The only listed name along with Aukerman is Paul F. Tompkins, the gentleman-comic (and another “Mr. Show” vet) who would be worth the price of admission by himself. Also expect the Comedy Bang! Bang! All-Stars, organizers said (we’ll see who those are this time around).

Wednesday, July 24, at the Paramount Theatre, 1621 Glenarm Place in Denver. Tickets for the all-ages show are on sale for $39.75-$69.75 via axs.com. — John Wenzel
