What to do this week: Hundreds of goldens retrievers gather in Golden; Stout Month returns

Ladies celebrating ladies

Wednesday. “Parks & Recreation” leading lady Leslie Knope once said, “We have to remember what’s important in life: friends, waffles, and work.” Forget work though. The first two star at an upcoming Galentine’s Day event at Bigsby’s Folly winery in Denver.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12, treat yourself and your best gal pals to house sips paired with an endless waffle buffet. Waffles come in sweet and savory flavors, and also include gluten-free options. Everyone who buys a ticket gets a complimentary mimosa or glass of sparkling wine upon arrival. Cheers to that!

Wine & Waffles Galentine’s Day happens Feb. 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Bigsby’s Folly Craft Winery, 3563 Wazee St., Denver. Tickets cost $35 at bigsbysfolly.com/galentines. — Tiney Ricciardi

Dark and stormy

Through Feb. 28. Stout Month has returned in full force to the Vine Street Pub, 1700 Vine St., in Denver, for the first time since before the pandemic, offering dozens of the darkest beers. The decades-old series of beer tappings first began in Boulder at the Mountain Sun Pub & Brewery before expanding to all of the company’s locations in Boulder, Longmont and Denver.

There will be at least ten taps at each location devoted to stouts every day in February, including favorites like Coconut Cream Stout, Megatron Imperial Hoppy Stout, Oatimus Prime Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Nihilist Russian Imperial Stout, Spice Rack Chai Cream Stout and Yonder Mountain Oatmeal Stout. There will also be new stouts, such as Strong Shot Rye Barrel-Aged Imperial Coffee Stout and Wizard’s Staff Imperial Stout.

Beer Bash

Saturday. One of Colorado’s best beer festivals returns to Greeley on Saturday, Feb. 8, bringing with it rare and special beers. The Weldwerks Invitational began in 2018, but was canceled during the pandemic and afterward. Weldwerks Brewing decided to bring it back this year to help celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary.

There will be more than 40 breweries on hand, including 450 North, Amalgam, American Solera, Bottle Logic, Casey Brewing and Blending, Fidens Brewing, Firestone Walker, Green Cheek Beer Co., Jester King, Other Half, Resident Culture and Trillium. Tickets (going fast) are $99 each, and there are two sessions to choose from, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. The fest takes place at the DoubleTree at Lincoln Park, 919 7th St. in Greeley; weldwerks.com.

Can’t make it to Greeley? Hops & Pie in Denver hosts a mini version of the fest from Feb. 6-8 — no tickets or road trip required. The pizzeria and beer bar, at  3920 Tennyson St., will have some of the same rare and sought-after beers as Weldwerks. Hops & Pie will also tap Pliny the Younger on Saturday, Feb. 8. hopsandpie.com

Goldens in Golden

Saturday. Hundreds of Golden Retrievers will flood the streets of Golden this weekend as the (what else?) Goldens in Golden returns to downtown, drawing people and pets from around the country to celebrate the trusty dog breed.

The family-friendly party features ice sculpting, custom Western doggie (and person) hats, treats, a Goldens art exhibition, pup-cups at local brewpubs, dog vendors, and more. 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. Meet near the Golden Welcome Center and Parfet Park at 10th and Washington Avenue; streets closed to traffic between 11th and 14th avenues. The event is weather-dependent. visitgolden.com — John Wenzel
