La Paloma’s Nina Simone tribute

Thursday. If you’re hankering for more than the occasional Nina Simone cover, immerse yourself in the legendary jazz singer’s work with Dazzle’s Thursday, Jan 2, Nina Simone tribute. Singer and multi-instrumentalist La Paloma presents a musical homage that spans Simone’s discography and her work as an “activist, an artist (and) a dreamer,” Paloma wrote.

The all-ages show, which starts at 6:30 p.m., takes place at Dazzle Jazz at the Denver Performing Arts Complex, 1080 14th St. in Denver. Find tickets, $15-$20, at dazzledenver.com.

Thursday-Jan. 4, 2025. If you’re up for some laughs after New Year’s, Comedy Works has a pair of absolute crushers on tap. New York-based and Denver-beloved stand-up, actor and writer Sean Patton, a veteran of the High Plains Comedy Festival, is back at Comedy Works in downtown Denver for multiple shows Thursday, Jan. 2-Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025. January Giallo

Through Jan. 25. One of the best-looking 2025 repertory series from Denver Film kicks off this weekend with January Giallo, which fêtes the Italian horror genre exemplified in films such as Dario Argento’s “Suspiria.” The series, which begins Thursday, Jan. 9 with “Torso,” continues through Jan. 25 with “Valentine,” “Blood and Black Lace” and “Knife+Heart”.

Savoy Denver’s music lineup

Thursday. Denver’s MAS Events had a busy 2024 after a pandemic-prompted hiatus, with shows from Denver-based artist and Beat legend David Amram, as well the acclaimed Arc Iris, Robert Mirabal and Chris Thomas King.

MAS’s spring offerings, which are already booked through May, start Thursday, Jan. 9, with Grande Orquesta Navarre with Nadya Hill, which producers call “a local supergroup featuring DeVotchKa’s Tom Hagerman that blends tango, classical, and original compositions.”
