Not surprisingly, the top trending searches on Sunday night concerned the Academy Awards show.
Besides the general searches about who won, these queries popped up near the top of Google’s list:
What is “Anora” about? As described by the Associated Press, the best-picture winner is a “strip club Cinderella story but without a happy ending.” Mikey Madison stars as the title character, a Brooklyn sex worker who becomes involved with the son of Russian oligarchs. Though R-rated and at times violent, it’s generally classified as a comedy.
Who is ….
• Adrien Brody’s wife? His partner is Georgina Chapman, a fashion designer and actor who was formerly married to Harvey Weinstein. And, yes, Brody tossed his chewing gum at her as he went to pick up his Oscar.
• Zoe Saldaña’s husband? He is Italian artist Marco Perego-Saldaña; they have been married 12 years and have three sons. In accepting the Oscar for best supporting actress, Saldaña spoke glowingly of him (and his hair) and said, “The biggest honor of my life is being your partner.”
• Cynthia Erivo’s partner? She is Lena Waithe, a producer, writer and actor, and an Emmy winner for her writing on the Aziz Ansari series “Master of None.” Erivo didn’t win an Oscar, but the pair were seated prominently in one of the front rows.
• Andrew Garfield’s mom? Lynn Garfield died in 2019. Onstage at the Oscars, Andrew Garfield told his co-presenter Goldie Hawn that her work had brought joy to his mother.
Who is June Squibb? Co-presenting with Scarlett Johansson, the 95-year-old actor stole the show with her deadpan joke about actually being Bill Skarsgård in disguise. She played the lead role in last year’s “Thelma” and in Johannson’s upcoming directorial debut, and in 2014 she was a supporting-actress nominee for “Nebraska.”
What is “slava Ukraine”? In a show with few overt references to politics, Daryl Hannah opened her presentation of the best-editing Oscar by calling out “slava Ukraine” — “glory to Ukraine.”
Is Mick Jagger younger than Bob Dylan? Presenting the best-song Oscar, Jagger made a joke about Bob Dylan and referred to himself as “someone younger.” Jagger is 81, Dylan is 83.
What’s with Halle Berry’s dress?! It’s just what it looked like: covered with mirror tiles and thousands of silvery beads. It was created by Christian Siriano, who also made the dreamy “liquid” gown worn by Whoopi Goldberg.
