Westminster activates emergency cold weather shelter through Thursday

Westminster’s emergency cold weather shelter will be open until noon Thursday in response to extreme temperatures.

The MAC, at 3295 W. 72nd Ave., was activated Tuesday. The shelter opens whenever the city experiences sustained temperatures of zero degrees Fahrenheit with or without wind chill for more than six hours, according to a post from city officials on X.

As part of the shelter plan, the fire department provides blankets, cots and other supplies for roughly 100 people, according to Westminster’s website. Additionally, if someone at the shelter experiences a medical emergency, the fire department may transport them to the hospital.
