I-70 closed at exit 176 for Vail around 12:20 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

CDOT officials originally reported a crash as the cause of the closure but, at 12:36 p.m., said a vehicle fire was keeping the interstate closed.

Multiple Waze users on westbound I-70 reported a heavy traffic jam between exit 180 for East Vail and exit 176 for Vail, and CDOT officials reported up to a 15-minute delay in the area.

No estimated time of reopening was available on Friday afternoon, and CDOT officials said drivers should expect delays in the area.
