Violin worth $10,000 stolen on CTA train in the Loop

A custom-made violin was stolen during a robbery on a CTA train Friday night in the Loop, Chicago police say.

The instrument, valued at $10,000, was taken around 9 p.m. on a CTA Blue Line train near 117 W. Lake St., police said. Authorities describe the robber as a male between 30 and 40 years old and between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-11. He was wearing a black jacket with white-striped sleeves, black pants and white gym shoes.

The violin was inside a black case and has a distinct grain pattern on the back, police said. The instrument does not have a serial number because it was custom made.

Police ask anyone with information on the stolen violin to contact mass transit detectives at (312) 745-4447 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com.
